In first match of WC 2019, host England defeated South Africa by a big margin of 104 runs. SA won the toss and elected to field first. England after losing Bairstow in second over, played sensibly. Fifties by Roy, Root, Morgan and Stokes helped England to set a target of 312.

In response, SA batting didnt’ performed as per expectations and wickets kept falling with little gap. Only de Kock and Dussen could show some resistance and scored fifties. SA got all out in 40th over at a total of 207. Poor batting performance by SA batsmen resulted in defeat.

Stokes allround performance shared a major role in England victory. He scored 89 runs, took two wickets alongwith a superb catch to dismiss Phehlukwayo. He was given Man of the Match award.
